List of heavily discounted meters that didn't quite pass QC

If you are reading this, it is probably because you submitted a name idea for the ebike amp-hour meter, didn't win the prize, but still want a bargain. Here are some DrainBrains that I put together using parts that were flagged during the manufacturing of the last batch for various cosmetic reasons. They are all perfectly functional, and have the very latest firmware installed. The only real significant difference is that the LCD display on all but one are grey TN instead of yellow mode STN, so they have less contrast than the displays on the production units.

Refurbished display

Reject_Meters1 (37K)

Bargain meter #1 was returned by a customer as the button had somehow broken during transit. It shows some signs of use, but is otherwise just like a new unit. Price is $85 CAD. The button of course has been replaced.

Lightly affected displays

Reject_Meters2 (42K)

Bargain meters 2-5 were made from boxes that got scratched during manufacturing and handling. The scratches on the boxes are pretty minor. Price for these is $75 CAD each.

Worse off displays

Reject_Meters3 (33K)

The last three meters had more significant issues. The top one in the photo got badly scratched up by a set of burrs that stuck to the router while the windows were being cut out. The other two accidentally had their windows offset the wrong way, so the LCD screen does not align with the centre of the cutout. These units are $65 apiece.

Shunts

Reject_Shunts1 (23K)

Reject_Shunts2 (19K)

Finally, the current shunts for all of these meters have cosmetic defects too. Some had small cavities in the potting compound which were later filled with epoxy, while in others the casing for the polyfuse in the shunt got exposed on the surface. Again neither of these affect the functionality or robustness of the units in any way.

How to get one

These meters are being sold off first come first serve. If you want one, let me know which by emailing:

Shipping and handling within North America is $9.00 CAD, elsewhere I'll have to quote. Payments can be made by paypal, cash, cheque, or postal money order.
